If you’ve been exploring ways to level up your web design skills, you might have come across the Wix Studio Web Designer Certificate. This certification, offered by Wix Studio, is designed to validate your expertise in site planning, web animation construction and designing with responsiveness in mind.
I recently earned this certification and want to share what the process was like, along with some tips for anyone considering it.

My Wix journey
For about 2.5 years now, I’ve been using Wix. Like many others, I started with what’s now called Wix Classic. I immediately fell in love with how intuitive and user-friendly Wix was, especially compared to WordPress, which I had used before but never really felt aligned with.
When Wix Studio launched in the fall of 2023, it quickly became my go-to CMS. The powerful tools and flexibility it offers are unmatched, and I knew this was the way forward. So, when the opportunity to earn the Wix Studio Web Designer certification came up, I jumped at the chance.
Here’s how I went about getting certified and what you can expect if you decide to pursue the certification yourself.

Task 1: Recreating a reference site
To get certified, you have to complete two practical tasks using Wix Studio to create and submit two live websites. Passing both is essential to earning the certification.
For the first task, Wix Studio provided a "reference site" that I had to recreate entirely from scratch. I was given images and illustrations and could copy the text from the reference site. Everything had to match perfectly across all breakpoints—desktop, tablet, and phone—including animations, fonts, and layouts.
This task was a deep dive into "pixel perfection." I analyzed every element of the reference site to ensure my recreation was as close to the original as possible. After four intense days of work, I completed the site and submitted it for review.
Task 2: Designing an original site
With Task 1 completed, it was time to tackle the second assignment. Task 2 required me to create a brand-new site from scratch, no guidelines, no templates allowed, and it had to be fully functional on all breakpoints.
For someone new to Wix Studio, I guess this can be a challenge. For me however, I simply sent a site I made previously that fulfilled all the requirements.
Two weeks later, I got the email I was hoping for: I had passed!

Practical tips for earning your Wix Studio Web Designer certification
If you’re thinking about going for the Wix Studio Web Designer Certification, here are a few tips based on my experience:
Master the basics first
Before diving into the certification tasks, make sure you're comfortable with Wix Studio’s core features—stacks, repeaters, animations, and responsive design tools. If you’re new to the platform, take time to explore and experiment with these tools. The more familiar you are, the smoother the process will go.
Break down your tasks
The certification tasks can seem overwhelming at first, but breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps makes a huge difference. For Task 1, focus on getting each breakpoint right, and don’t rush through the animations and design details. For Task 2, create a clear plan with phases—planning, wireframing, and implementation.
Pay attention to pixel perfection
One of the key elements in the certification is making sure everything looks flawless across devices. Check every element carefully, fonts, spacing, animations and ensure consistency on desktop, tablet, and mobile views. A small mistake can make a big difference.
Take advantage of Wix resources
Wix offers a ton of support through guides, tutorials, and their community. If you’re stuck on something, don’t hesitate to look for solutions or ask questions. It can save you a lot of time and frustration.
Be patient and embrace the learning curve
Wix Studio offers a lot of powerful features, but they might take some time to fully understand. Don’t get discouraged if things seem complicated at first. With consistent practice, it will start to click.
Keep refining your design
Even after feeling finished, it’s a good idea to refine and update your sites based on feedback or new ideas. Keep experimenting with new features to expand your skills and creativity.

Conclusion
Earning the Wix Studio Web Designer Certification was a rewarding journey that helped me level up my skills and deepened my understanding of web design principles. If you’re ready to take on the challenge, I hope these tips help make the process a little easier and more enjoyable.
Good luck and keep designing!
